Stories From The Sewing Box
Most stitchers have fond memories of sewing as a child, of playing with mum’s button box or being fascinated by nan’s sewing box!
This is a lovely day of “slow stitching”, nostalgia and stories.
Using an old woollen blanket as a ground you will piece together a background from vintage fabrics, old table linens, pattern paper and fabrics printed with images from old sewing magazines.
You will then start to add pattern using vintage haberdashery – tape measures, buttons, safety pins and whatever else you might have to hand and then start the lovely process of slow hand-stitching. Running stitch and cross-stitch are all you really need but you can be more adventurous if you wish.
You’ll also add a small bit of text to bring your own story to the piece.
You may not finish this on the day but you will be far enough along that you can finish it off at home. You will create a scrappy hanging which can be hung on the wall with bulldog clips. It also looks great mounted in a frame.
I will provide all the materials needed but you may wish to bring some of your own bits & pieces to make it even more personal. I’ll give you ideas of what to bring on booking.
Stories From The Scullery
If you wish you can change your hanging to a kitchen inspired theme simply by changing the materials used.
You could piece together a patchwork background from old table linens, vintage tea towels, adverts from vintage magazines and fabrics printed with old recipes.
I’ll provide all the materials needed but you may wish to bring your own personal bits & pieces. I’ll give you ideas for what to bring on booking.
